The San Pedro Animal Foundation
The mission of the San Pedro Animal Foundation is to promote the health and welfare of domestic animals in Belize by providing spay/neuter services and veterinary care for animals in need. The foundation was created by the owners of San Pedro Animal Hospital as a way for San Pedro’s first private veterinary clinic to serve the community in cases of financial need. San Pedro’s Humane Society, Saga, does not support any charity cases which are treated at San Pedro Animal Hospital. Saga Humane Society also does not have a permanent veterinarian on staff. By supporting the San Pedro Animal Foundation you allow the Animal Hospital to treat cases of trauma and illness in pets who have owners who are unable to afford veterinary care for them. Our hope is also to promote the control of the animal population in San Pedro by assisting families in need with the cost of spaying and neutering their pets.
Donate to San Pedro Animal Foundation
The San Pedro Animal Foundation does not exist to compete with other animal charities in Belize. We will offer funding to other Belizean animal welfare organizations such as Saga Humane Society if the need arises.
The San Pedro Animal Foundation is governed by three volunteer directors, one of which is a certified public accountant in Belize. Dr. Laurie Droke serves as the organization’s non-executive director. Please contact Dr. Laurie if you have any questions or would like to help.
Our first project will be teaming up with Peace Corps volunteer Manissa Pedroza to bring veterinary care to the lovely, remote fishing village of Sarteneja in Northern Belize. With its current tiny budget the San Pedro Animal Foundation has already funded a cat spay and 3 rabies vaccines for three of Manissa’s rescue animals. Thank you to those of you who have donated! San Pedro Animal Hospital looks forward to working with Manissa to become part of a long- term local solution to the lack of veterinary care in Sarteneja.
